My husband hit his head when he was rear-ended by a car in Chandler. What are some of the symptoms of a serious head injury that we should be watching out for?

 

A: The warning signs of a serious head injury do not always surface immediately.  If your husband has not done so already, he needs to seek medical treatment.  

A doctor will be able to exam your husband to determine if he has suffered a traumatic brain injury.  A CT scan or MRI might be ordered to confirm his diagnosis.

In the meantime, some of the symptoms to watch out for include the following:

• Persistent headache
• Seizures
• Continuous vomiting
• Dilation of one or both pupils
• Slurred speech
• Loss of coordination
• Inability to awaken from sleep
• Weakness
• Agitation
