How Do You REALLY Know What Caused the Truck Accident?

No one doubts the fact that trucks serve as an intricate part of our economy. However, many drivers fear trucks because they understand that being involved in a truck accident can be incredibly dangerous. Trucks are larger and heavier than cars and can result in a catastrophic accident.

Spotting Unseen Factors
If you or someone you know has been injured in a truck accident, you might want to consider pursuing legal action, especially if the trucker was at fault.
It Just Takes One Dog Bite to Cause a Serious Injury

Some believe that there are only two types of people in the world - dog lovers and dog haters. No matter your feelings towards canines, most will not dispute the fact that a dog is still an animal and it’s behavior, no matter how well trained a dog is, should still be considered unpredictable. Let’s face it - a dog bite can happen at anytime.

Many dog activists defend canines by claiming attacks by dogs are rare and generally only happen when a dog is provoked. Whether that is true or not, the fact of the matter is that it takes just one dog bite to cause serious harm, such as physical and emotional scarring.

Most dog bites occur on the face, arms and legs. In many cases, the physical scarring is permanent and can leave a dog bite victim permanently disfigured. Victims may find themselves facing a mountain of medical bills due to costs associated with reconstruction surgery and other treatment. The dog bite can also cause severe nerve damage causing an immense level of pain and future complications.

A dog bite victim might also suffer emotional scarring. Unfortunately, children often suffer the brunt of the emotional damage causing them to be afraid to go outside and play.

If you or someone you know has suffered an injury as a result of a dog bite, you should contact an experienced Phoenix dog bite attorney at our office at (480) 632-7373.
Phoenix Car Accidents Involving Backless Booster Car Seats are Risky for Kids

Every parent understands that a Phoenix car accident can happen at anytime and how important it is to make sure all young children are properly fastened into child safety seats. As children get bigger, many parents turn to backless booster seats as a safe and alternative option.

However, a recent study indicates that backless booster seats may not be as safe as parents might think. The study indicates that these types of car seats offer little protection to children if the car they are riding in is struck on the side.

Researchers believe that backless booster seats increase the risk of a child being fatally injured in a crash. The reason for this belief is that a child’s head can be crushed against the window or door in a side impact accident.

The same researchers are also recommending that parents discontinue the use of backless booster seats and replace them with traditional booster seats that have backs to them. They believe that booster seats with backs are safer for children, since they offer children more protection in a car accident.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a car, motorcycle or truck accident, you should contact our office at (480) 632-7373 for a free consultation.

Be sure to order a FREE copy of my book, 9 Huge Mistakes That Can CRUSH your Arizona Accident Case.
Will Tempe Pedestrian Accidents Decrease?

In February 2010, the city of Tempe completed its six mile Western Canal Multi-Use Path Project that extends from Arizona Mills Mall to Price Road in central Tempe. The project includes a new bicycle and pedestrian path that runs along the Western Canal that connects parks, schools and other popular Tempe destinations.

Along with lighting, landscaping and public art, the project also features HAWK, the High Intensity Activated Crosswalk systems. HAWK is a beacon signal located at two mid-block crossings that include Rural Road and McClintock Drive, both located at the Western Canal.

HAWK will benefit pedestrians, joggers and bicyclists by helping keep them safe. HAWK is designed to alert motorists of when someone is entering the crosswalk. The beacon light will warn motorists that it’s time to start slowing down by flashing yellow for several seconds and then changing to a solid yellow. This signaling will let drivers know they should prepare to stop. It will turn solid red when motorists are required to stop for people in the crosswalk.

The nice thing for motorists is that if there is no pedestrian in the crosswalk, then they will be permitted to precede, as long as the red light is flashing. The signal will turn off whenever any pedestrian has completely gone through the crosswalk.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a Tempe pedestrian accident, you should contact our office at (480) 632-7373.
Arizona Car Accidents and Drunk Drivers

As Arizona’s population continues to grow, so does the amount of cars, motorcycles and trucks that congest the roads. This means that the risk of being injured in an Arizona car accident is greater every time you get behind the wheel and the results can be devastating.

One common factor in Phoenix car accidents is alcohol. As a matter of fact, it has been reported that alcohol plays a role in nearly 40 percent of the more than 40,000 fatalities involving car accidents across the United States. It has been estimated that more than 16,000 people lose their lives each year in accidents where alcohol was a factor.

Alcohol-related car crashes also take a toll on young drivers. A large percentage of car accident fatalities are attributed to alcohol among the younger population.

Further statistics reveal that an alcohol-related injury occurs approximately every two minutes in the United States. Also, about 1.5 million drivers are arrested for drunk driving or driving under the influence of drugs. Even more shocking is the fact that nearly 3 in 10 Americans will be involved in an accident involving alcohol at least one time in their lives.

If you or someone you know has been injured in an Arizona drunk driving accident, you should contact an experienced Phoenix car accident attorney.

At the Law Offices of Kevin Jensen, we represent clients throughout Maricopa County.
Overloaded Trucks Put Arizona Residents in Danger

The Arizona roadways are congested with large trucks carrying heavy loads. Being involved in a semi truck crash can be catastrophic, especially if the truck is overloaded.

As with any American corporation, trucking companies are in the business of turning profits. Truckers are often encouraged to haul as much cargo as their trucks can hold. Unfortunately, in many cases, this results in trucks becoming overloaded with freight.

Research suggests that overloading is a major factor in truck accidents. Though, there are strict laws pertaining to load limits, truckers and trucking companies frequently break these rules. An overloaded semi is more likely to be involved in an Arizona truck accident, since the weight of the truck can make it more difficult for the truck driver to stop.

Not all accidents with trucks can be avoided. You or a loved one can sustain a serious injury, as a result of a collision with a semi. A truck accident can also prove fatal. That is why you should speak with an experienced Phoenix truck accident attorney if you have been injured. You may be able to hold the trucker and/or trucking company liable.

For a free case evaluation, contact our office at (480) 632-7373. We represent clients throughout Maricopa County, including both the east and west valleys.
Arizona Aggressive Truckers

A lot of Arizona drivers feel uneasy sharing the roadways with large trucks, especially in Phoenix. Drivers become nervous and feel that their lives are at risk when truckers display aggressive driving habits, such as riding their bumper, crowding them or cutting them off.

This is for good reason. Trucks are much larger and heavier than the averaged sized car and being involved in an accident with a semi can be catastrophic. Unfortunately, truckers often show little concern over this fact and continue to drive aggressively.

Many Arizona truck accidents are a result of aggressive driving by truckers. Examples of aggressive driving behavior include tailgating, speeding, excessive and unsafe lane changing, flashing lights and honking, to name a few. It’s important to move out of the way of any trucker who is displaying aggressive driving behavior.

It’s also important to note reasons why many truckers drive aggressively. Truckers often find themselves under pressure and feel rushed to deliver their loads on time. This can result in aggressive driving.

Not all accidents with semis can be avoided and you might find yourself with a serious injury, as a result. An experienced Phoenix truck accident attorney can help you answer the tough questions that will arise from a serious accident with a truck.

If you or someone you know has been injured in an Arizona truck accident, you should contact our office at (480) 632-7373.

Be sure to order a free copy of my book, 9 Huge Mistakes That Can CRUSH your Arizona Accident Case.

Injuries From an Arizona Motorcycle Accident Can Be Reduced by Wearing a Helmet

Arizona is a common place for motorcycles. That also means that Arizona motorcycle accidents are common. Unfortunately, as the temperatures continue to skyrocket, many motorcyclists are finding it inconvenient to wear helmets.

A motorcycle crash can happen at anytime, putting you at risk of suffering a serious injury, such as a traumatic brain injury. It is important to note that brain injuries are the leading cause of death in motorcycle accidents.

Fortunately, there are steps that Arizona motorcyclists can take to reduce their chances of sustaining a serious head injury, such as wearing a motorcycle accident. A motorcycle helmet is designed to protect your head during a crash, especially from the pavement. It is highly recommended that you, and any passengers, are wearing a helmet at all times.

However, serious injuries cannot always be avoided. A major motorcycle accident can leave you wondering how you will pay your medical bills and who will care for your family. An experienced Phoenix motorcycle accident attorney can help you build a solid case and receive the best settlement possible.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a motorcycle accident in Maricopa County, you should contact my law firm at (480) 632-7373 for advice. The consultation is free.

Be sure to order a free copy of my book, 9 Huge Mistakes That Can CRUSH your Arizona Accident Case.

Understanding the Causes of Arizona Motorcycle Accidents

Arizona roads and highways are not only congested with motorcycles, but trucks and cars, as well. That means that the risk of being seriously injured in a Phoenix motorcycle accident could be greater than you might think.

If you are a motorcyclist, it is imperative that you not only understand the risks of riding a bike, but more importantly, understand the common causes of motorcycle accidents. In 1981, the Hurt Study was published after researchers conducted an exhaustive study looking into key causes of accidents involving motorcycles.

One of the common causes involves other vehicles on the road. The study sites that nearly two-thirds of motorcycle accidents involve another vehicle where the other driver violated the motorcyclist’s right-of-way. The most frequent factor involving multiple vehicle accidents with bikes occurred with automobiles making left turns in front of oncoming motorcycles.

The study also cites that 2 percent of all motorcycle accidents are caused by road defects, such as potholes and uneven paving.

Research supports the notion that the majority of motorcycle accidents are the result of another vehicle

If you or someone you know has been injured in an Arizona motorcycle accident, you should contact an experienced Phoenix motorcycle accident attorney for legal advice.

The Impact of Tired Truckers in Arizona

There are often stories of Arizona drivers falling asleep behind the wheel and causing serious car accidents. What happens when the sleepy driver is operating a large truck that is a lot heavier than the average sized car?

Most drivers don’t realize the dangers that tired truck drivers pose to other motorists. It is estimated that almost 5,000 Americans lose their lives each year in accidents involving large trucks. Also, the National Transportation Safety Board estimates that approximately 30 to 40 percent of large truck crashes are linked to fatigued truckers.

Amazingly, if you take into consideration that semi trucks only account for 3 percent of all registered vehicles in the nation, they are responsible for nearly 12 to 13 percent of all fatal wrecks.

An accident with a large truck can be catastrophic. It can leave you or a loved one with life changing injuries. A collision with a semi truck can result in a mountain of medical bills that you can’t pay.

Depending on the details of your Arizona truck accident, you might be able to hold the trucker liable.
Speeding Causes Arizona Car Crashes

As Americans continue to flock to warm weathered Arizona, the roadways become more congested with motorized vehicles. This means that you and your loved ones are at greater risk of being involved in a serious car accident.

One of the common causes of all auto accidents is speed. As a matter of fact, speeding has been linked to nearly one-third of fatal car accidents in America. Statistics indicate that approximately 1,000 Americans lose their lives every month in accidents when speed is a factor.

The faster a vehicle goes the more dangerous that vehicle becomes. Experts believe that for every mile per hour a driver goes above the posted speed limit the more at risk they are of being involved in or causing a serious or fatal wreck.

You may be a safe driver who uses precautions and obeys posted speed limits every time you get behind the wheel. Unfortunately, not everyone drives like you do.

A serious Arizona auto accident can leave you or a loved one with a debilitating injury.
When a Phoenix Car Accident Leads to a Traumatic Brain Injury

Car accidents happen all the time on the Arizona roadways. Some crashes result in mild injuries while others can be more severe. A serious Phoenix car accident can leave you or a loved one with a permanent injury, changing life, as you know it.

According to MayoClinic.com, a traumatic brain injury (TBI) can “bruise the brain, tear nerve fibers and cause bleeding,” all of which can be deadly.

Car crash victims commonly suffer from traumatic brain injuries. It has been estimated that almost half of all traumatic brain injury cases are a result of a car, motorcycle or bicycle accident.

A TBI can be categorized as mild, moderate or severe. Symptoms from a mild TBI may include headaches dizziness, confusion and blurred vision. A victim of a moderate to severe TBI may experience persistent headaches, seizures, slurred speech and a loss of coordination.

If you have been involved in a recent car accident and believe that you are experiencing signs of a traumatic brain injury, you should seek medical attention immediately. You may also want help determining if the injury was a result of someone else’s negligence and whether you can hold that person liable.

If you or someone you know has suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a car, motorcycle or truck accident in Phoenix or elsewhere in Maricopa County, you should our office at (480) 632-7373.
Was That Trucker Really Texting Behind the Wheel?

We see it all the time on the Arizona roadways…people texting while driving. What happens when the driver who is texting is behind the wheel of a large truck? The results can be catastrophic.

The Department of Transportation describes a truck driven by a texting driver as a lethal weapon. A study conducted by Virginia Tech cites that a truck driver who is texting is 23 times more likely to be involved in an accident as opposed to a trucker who is paying attention to the road.

As a result, many new regulations and laws have been introduced prohibiting drivers from using handheld cell phone devices to text while driving. Unfortunately, many truckers are ignoring these news laws and putting you and your family at risk.

Being involved in a crash with a semi can leave you and your loved ones with serious injuries. It may even prove fatal since a tractor-trailer is significantly bigger and heavier than the average car on the road.

If a texting trucker has injured you, you may be able to recover compensation. An experienced Phoenix truck accident attorney will be able to advise you regarding your legal options.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a truck accident in Mesa, Chandler, Phoenix, Glendale, Buckeye or elsewhere in the valley, you should contact our office at (480) 632-7373, for a free case evaluation.

Unfortunately, no matter how safe of a driver you are, some auto accidents are unavoidable.

As you know, a car crash can happen at anytime and leave you seriously injured.
Myths About Phoenix Pit Bulls

There are approximately 800,000 dog bites each year in America, many of them happen right here in Arizona. Consequently, some of the dog attacks involve pit bulls.

What image comes to mind when you hear the word pit bull? If you are like many Americans you initially think of vicious dogfights and violent attacks on innocent victims. Your initial response could be well founded.

You should know that there are many myths about pit bulls that aim to protect the breed and their breeders.

One popular myth designed to protect pit bull breeders and owners is the notion that, “It’s the owner, not the breed.” This popular slogan puts the blame on careless pit bull owners rather than the genetic truths about the breed.

Though, a pit bull’s environment can directly affect it’s behavior, there is little dispute that the genetic makeup of the breed is generally what leads to permanent and disfiguring injuries. As a matter of fact, from 2005 to 2009, pit bulls claimed the lives of 82 Americans.

Many U.S. courts have agreed with this notion. Some of the genetic traits identified by U.S. courts include unpredictability of aggression, tenacity and high pain tolerance.

If you or someone you know has been injured as a result of a dog bite, you should contact us at (480) 632-7373 for a free case evaluation.
Avoiding an Arizona Dog Bite

Have you or someone you know recently become a victim of an Arizona dog bite? It is estimated that there are approximately 800,000 dog bites per year in the United States. That equates to one every 40 seconds.

Unfortunately, Phoenix dog bites can result in a serious injury. A victim of a dog bite can sustain cuts, lacerations, broken bones, punctures or crushing wounds, to name a few. Keep in mind that the central target area of a dog bite is the face.

However, there are some steps you can follow to avoid being bitten by a canine. First, understand a “dangerous” situation such as invading a dog’s territory, a jealous dog and a situation that might be construed as a threat to the dog or the dog’s family.

If you find yourself in a threatening situation, avoid approaching or bending over a dog, especially if the dog is lying quietly. If the dog is lying still, avoid waking or teasing the dog. Taking these steps can help you avoid an unfortunate encounter with the animal.

Also, some general rules to follow include never holding your face close to a dog, approaching a dog you do not know, teasing or startling a dog and leaving a small child unsupervised with a canine.

If you or someone you know has been injured as a result of a dog bite, contact us at (480) 632-7373 for a free case evaluation.
Don't Damage Your Phoenix Car Accident Case

The Phoenix roadways pose many dangers to Arizona drivers. As the population increases, so does the amount of cars on the road. This equates to a greater risk of being involved in a serious car accident.

As you know, a major Phoenix car accident can leave you or someone you love with a debilitating injury. You can find yourself with a mountain of medical bills you can’t pay. You may even be unable to work, which can lead to lost income.

It is important that you understand that tou may be able to hold the other driver liable and obtain compensation. However, your settlement will depend on the strength of your case.

With that in mind, you should understand that there are mistakes that you can make that could wreck your case, such as not calling police.

No matter how minor the damage or the injuries appear, always get the police involved. You might need proof in the event that the insurance company attempts to dispute the facts.

Also, admitting fault could be disastrous. It can be difficult to understand the actual cause of the accident. Unbeknownst to you, the accident could have been caused by a defect in one of the vehicles or even dangerous road conditions. Some victims make the mistake of quickly accepting blame.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a car, motorcycle or truck accident, you should contact our office at (480) 632-7373 for answers to your questions.
Distracted Arizona Drivers

The population of Arizona is growing daily. This equates to more motorists hitting the Arizona highways, increasing your risk, as well as those you love, of being involved in a serious car accident.

Research shows that one of the most common causes of car accidents are distracted drivers. Not having your full attention on the road when driving can lead to an auto accident in Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Phoenix or other area throughout the valley. The accident can leave you unable to earn a living. It can even prove fatal.

The statistics may shock you. It is estimated that in 2008, nearly 6,000 people lost their lives in accidents involving distracted drivers. More than 500,000 were injured.

Research also indicates that drivers under the age of 21 are more likely to be involved in a fatal distracted driving accident.

Many experts believe that the use of cell phones, whether its talking, dialing or texting, is one of the most common reasons that a driver becomes distracted. Some reports indicate that using a cell phone while driving reduces the amount of brain activity linked with driving by 37 percent.

Research also shows that drivers using cell phones are four times more likely to be involved in an injury-related crash.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a car, motorcycle or truck accident, you should contact our office at (480) 632-7373 to speak with an experienced Mesa accident attorney.
Fatal Arizona Car Accident Results in Mistaken Identity

An Arizona car accident involving a blown tire claims the lives of two former Ironwood High School students and leaves at least two others hospitalized. The incident took place on Sunday, July 18, 2010, along Interstate 10, approximately 50 miles west of Glendale.

According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the friends were returning from a weekend trip to Disneyland when the left rear tire of their Ford SUV blew. The blow-out caused the driver to lose control of the SUV, which rolled over.

The car accident claimed the lives of 20-year-old Tyler Parker and 21-year-old Marlena Cantu. A third victim, 19-year-old Abby Guerra, suffered critical injuries and remains hospitalized.

The fatal auto accident resulted in a case of mistaken identity. At first, it was reported that Guerra had died in the accident and that Cantu was the critically injured victim, which was incorrect. However, hospital officials later realized the mistake and notified the victim’s parents of the mix-up.

Giselle Morales, 20, also sustained injuries in the single-vehicle wreck. Her injuries were described as severe.

The fatal Arizona car accident is still under investigation by local authorities. There was no other information provided as to the cause of the blow-out.

This is a terrible tragedy and we would like to extend our thoughts and condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time. We would also like to wish Ms. Morales and Ms. Guerra a speedy recovery.
