Fatal Arizona Car Accident Results in Mistaken Identity

Posted on Aug 03, 2010

An Arizona car accident involving a blown tire claims the lives of two former Ironwood High School students and leaves at least two others hospitalized. The incident took place on Sunday, July 18, 2010, along Interstate 10, approximately 50 miles west of Glendale.

According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the friends were returning from a weekend trip to Disneyland when the left rear tire of their Ford SUV blew. The blow-out caused the driver to lose control of the SUV, which rolled over.

The car accident claimed the lives of 20-year-old Tyler Parker and 21-year-old Marlena Cantu. A third victim, 19-year-old Abby Guerra, suffered critical injuries and remains hospitalized.

The fatal auto accident resulted in a case of mistaken identity. At first, it was reported that Guerra had died in the accident and that Cantu was the critically injured victim, which was incorrect. However, hospital officials later realized the mistake and notified the victim’s parents of the mix-up.

Giselle Morales, 20, also sustained injuries in the single-vehicle wreck. Her injuries were described as severe.

The fatal Arizona car accident is still under investigation by local authorities. There was no other information provided as to the cause of the blow-out.

This is a terrible tragedy and we would like to extend our thoughts and condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time. We would also like to wish Ms. Morales and Ms. Guerra a speedy recovery.
