Posted on Aug 14, 2010

A Phoenix pedestrian accident leaves a 3-year-old boy in critical condition after he is struck by a car in front of an apartment complex. The incident took place at approximately 7:30 PM on Sunday evening, July 25, 2010, near 35th Avenue and Dunlap Avenue.

According to Phoenix Police Department spokesperson Lt. Ben Leushner, the young boy was playing with a group of children outside of an apartment complex when he was struck by a vehicle. Leushner indicated that the child darted into the street when he was struck in the head by a woman’s side mirror. The woman was traveling northbound on 35th Avenue. The driver apparently attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the boy.

Rescue crews transported the victim to St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was listed in critical condition.

Officials indicate that the child was being supervised by relatives in a gated area. However, the child managed to exit the area before running into the street.

The Phoenix pedestrian accident is still under investigation by local authorities. According to Leushner, the woman was not speeding at the time of the accident and police do not believe that she was impaired.

This is an unfortunate incident and we wish the victim a quick recovery during this difficult time.
