The insurance adjuster for the other driver is calling me and requesting that I give them a recorded statement about what happened. What should I do? Do I have any obligation to provide a recorded statement?

No! Insurance adjusters are trained to call you and give you the impression that you are obligated to provide a recorded statement. You have no obligation to provide a recorded statement to the careless driver’s insurance company. Providing a statement may seem like a harmless thing to do. After all, the accident is not your fault. However, insurance adjusters are trained in the questions they ask. They are looking for anything they can possibly use to: blame you for causing the accident or to minimize what they ultimately offer to pay you as compensation for your injuries. Once you give them a statement they can use it against you later on.
